The 8 Best Kitesurf Spots in Dakhla

By Romano · June 10, 2026 · 5 min read

Dakhla has eight kitesurf spots, from closest to the camp to farthest: West Point (3–5 min), La Lagune (~20 min), Speed Spot (15–20 min), La Sarga (~30 min), Secret Spot (25–30 min), Gold Point, White Dune (~45 min) and Aarich (~1 h). Beginners head to La Lagune and Speed Spot at high tide. Advanced riders take West Point and Gold Point. From the camp most are minutes away, and the schools collect you on site.

Part of our guide: Kitesurfing in Dakhla: The Complete Guide

Why Dakhla, and why from the camp

I’m Romano. I’ve been a kitesurf instructor since 2008 and I’ve lived in Dakhla since 2017 — I read the wind here every day, spot by spot. Why has Dakhla become a headline destination? Simple: we get more than 330 windy days a year. In summer it generally blows between 25 and 35 knots, and you can ride year-round. In other words, it’s rare to be stuck on land.

The other edge is our location. The camp sits in the centre of the peninsula, which puts us roughly halfway between the lagoon spots to the east and the wave spots on the ocean side. In practice we never cross the whole region: depending on the day’s wind and tide, we pick the spot and get there fast. Some are literally minutes from the door.

Below are our 8 spots, from closest to farthest from the camp, each with distance, access (normal car or 4x4), recommended level and disciplines. This is what I tell our guests over breakfast every morning.

The spots close to the camp (normal car)

West Point — 3–5 min · normal car · intermediate to advanced · kitesurf, wingfoil, surf. This is our go-to on the doorstep. A wave spot with side-onshore wind: perfect when you want to jump or ride the wave without driving anywhere. Great for an end-of-day session.

La Lagune (Dakhla lagoon) — ~20 min · normal car · beginner & intermediate · kitesurf, wingfoil, windsurf. This is THE spot to learn: flat or near-flat water, a lagoon that works at high and low tide, side-shore wind and rescue boats on the water. If you’re starting out, this is where it all begins.

Aarich — ~1 h · normal car · all levels · surf. The northernmost spot and, despite the distance, still reachable in a normal car. Tall sand cliffs shelter it from the wind and keep the waves clean and well-shaped. You come here to surf, not to kite: a lovely day-trip when the wind is light.

The 4x4 spots (where the adventure starts)

Speed Spot — 15–20 min · 4x4 only · all levels, tide-dependent · kitesurf. A kite-only spot that changes face with the tide. At high tide, a big standing area: perfect for building confidence as a beginner. At low tide, perfect flat water and offshore wind for those chasing tricks.

Secret Spot — 25–30 min · 4x4 only · all levels · kitesurf. Kite only, and it needs a mid-to-high tide. At mid tide, green seagrass surfaces and carves out striking channels; the setting alone is worth the 4x4 drive.

La Sarga — ~30 min · 4x4 · all levels · kitesurf, wingfoil, surf. The Swiss army knife: both flat water and waves, offshore wind, with a rescue boat on site. Whether you’re a freestyle rider or a wave rider, everyone finds their thing here.

Gold Point — 4x4 only · intermediate to advanced · kitesurf, surf. On the ocean side, with waves and a small flat-water area, side-onshore wind. A spot for confident riders, saved for when you want to commit in the wave.

White Dune (Dune Blanche) — ~45 min · 4x4 only · all levels · kitesurf, surf. The most spectacular of all. It works at high and low tide and, at big high tide, you can surf around the dune and jump off it. It’s the kind of session people are still talking about at dinner.

Which spot for your level?

Beginners: start at La Lagune. It’s the learning spot par excellence — flat water, steady wind, rescue boats and plenty of room. Speed Spot is your second option: at high tide, the big standing area is perfect for laying down your first runs stress-free.

Intermediate riders: you can taste it all. La Sarga and Speed Spot at low tide offer beautiful flat water to progress with confidence, while La Lagune stays a comfortable playground for clocking up the miles.

Advanced riders: head to West Point and Gold Point for waves and side-onshore, and White Dune for a memorable session at big high tide. These spots reward those who can handle wave and wind — exactly what we love to commit to when the conditions line up.

The right habit: just ask us. The best spot always depends on the day’s tide and wind, and that’s precisely what we fine-tune together every morning.

From the camp: minutes away, and we collect you

The upside of sleeping in the centre of the peninsula is that most of these spots are minutes away. West Point is 3–5 minutes, the lagoon about twenty; even the 4x4 spots stay short outings by Dakhla’s standards. You wake up, check the wind, and go.

No car? Not a problem. If you take kitesurf, wingfoil or land-sailing lessons, the school picks you up directly at the camp. Land sailing, by the way, takes about twenty minutes to learn — I run it in-house, and it’s the easiest wind sport to start with. For moving freely between spots on your own, a car is still recommended, and we can help you rent one through our partner.

To plan your stay: browse each spot in detail on our our spots page, pick your room on our rooms, and read how to reach us on getting here (the last stretch is a track, but it’s signposted and lit at night). A question about the conditions or the best time to come? Write to us from the contact page — I’m happy to answer, spot by spot. See you on the water.
